What a remarkable and uplifting story AND relevant now, yes, and always!
WOW Susie. This is so good. Another brilliant readable and useful piece of writing. So grateful to have it. Will pass on to friends and family.
I agree—we can get through this.
Love to you all, esp you and Barbara!!!!

Thanks so much, Elsa! Love to you & Revan!
Thrilled, grateful, stimulated to read this. I said something along these lines to a public school teacher recently. She seemed skeptical. Thank you for making a case for this truth. As well as for your dedication to Kevin. We all have benefitted.
Thank you so much for your message, Barbara Every headline I’ve read about the state of pandemic schooling is cast in negative light. Doom really does get better press than hope, doesn’t it? It felt important to add something positive to the prevailing narrative. Glad to hear there’s someone out there who feels the same way!
This is beautiful, Susie. You changed someone’s life through patience, love, tenacity and empathy. There are valuable life lessons here for everyone.
Thanks so much, Betsy!
Incredible woman.
Incredible young man.
Thanks, dear incredible friend.
You are so wise. Kevin’s struggle with learning traditionally was transformed into mutual love, and purpose, and prevailing against odds, and good days. I want everyone to read this.
Excellent! I love your posts and I’m going to share if that’s okay. This one especially! Thank you Susie! Hello to Barbara!
Thanks so much, Barbara! Please feel FREE to share! And I’ll give my Mrs. Scheiber a hug from you.
So good I reposted on my FB page….”Shy Girl” with a loud voice.
Thanks so much! I love that comment! That’s me, all right!
Susie – What a lovely, thoughtful and inspirational testimonial to your perseverance and especially your love. I would appreciate a follow-up on where Kevin is today. What a caring grandmother you have been. Eileen
This was a great read. What is dear Kevin up to these days? 🙂
Hi, Tanya! And thanks! So good to hear from you! I hope you’re all well. Kevin got his degree in paralegal studies last December and has been working part-time since then – remotely since March. He’s been living with me and my 98-1/2yo Mom for the past year – an especially wonderful addition to our bubble since the pandemic descended. He’s grown into an empathic, resilient, sensitive, witty, politically astute, omnivorously learning, ever interesting young man. He doesn’t want to read what I wrote – but he gave me his permission to write it, for which I’m very grateful. All my best always to you and your wonderful family. Take care.
So happy to have found this post! My son is signing up for his first year of high school at Seneca Valley. He signed up for digital art. I pulled out The Year of the Bird and showed him your work. Your work and words are still bringing us love and joy. He also has ADHD. I appreciate you! Stay well. Julia
Thank you so much, Julia. Your comment moves me and warms my heart. Sending wishes for luck and love to your son and to you. Susie
Hey there, Susan, my name is Munk and I manage the Global Village School facebook page. I was wondering if you’d permit me to link to this post (both on facebook and on the GVS website). This is really excellent work!
Hi, Munk. Thanks so much! I’d be very happy for you to provide a link to my post from your facebook page! Tanya MacGumerait of GVS was a wonderful world history teacher for my grandson when he was in his teens, so this connection means a lot to us. Cheers! Susie Spangler
Much appreciated, Susie! It was Tanya that found this for me, actually, and suggested I reach out. I’ll pass along your comments to her. Thanks again, and welcome to the Facebook parent group!
