I'm a graphic designer & illustrator, observer and survivor. My website, www.susanspangler.com, contains a wide portfolio of my projects and images – some for pay, most for love, many for both. This blog, like most of my artwork, is inspired by things that catch my eye, my ear, my heart. Funny, confounding, astounding and encouraging, all at once. You know. Life.

Thank YOU, Larry! I LOVE your story AND your bean pot! Thanks so much for sharing it with me and letting me pass it along.
This is brilliant. You’ve taken us into the wonderful stories of your life, which transport us to universal feelings we all have. And then there are your beautiful illustrations.
Thank you so much, Patty! As always, your encouraging words brighten my day and fill my heart!
Beautifully crafted, as always, Susie. Thanks for including me. It’s time for a dinner and movie night at my house. Look at your calendar. Pick a Saturday or Sunday hopefully not too far away. XoxoDenise

Thank YOU, Denise! Will write more via email.
This made me smile and then look around my house which is full of stuff, especially books. Paul and I talk about down-sizing, but it’s hard…
I left a lot in the process of moving a few years ago. But there’s still SO MUCH! Oh well. That’s the least of my worries!
Dear Susan,
Thanks for sharing all the stories. Many times I’ve been able to utilize something from the past that evokes fond memories or a simple smile-my mother’s bread bowl, grandma’s flour tin, grandpa’s sausage stuffer, great grandpa’s stick chair. After collecting a lot of stuff, I finally asked myself how much stuff I needed to remember someone. I came to the conclusion that I just needed one thing. It keeps me from amassing piles and makes me really think about the thing I want to keep to memorialize someone. Okay, sometimes I keep two. Sometimes it’s just too hard.

Thanks so much for your thoughtful response! I am nowhere near your level of curation! Everywhere I look I see things that emanate treasured feelings and memories! My daughter is the same as me, so by the time all our stuff befalls my grandchildren, they’re either going to have very full homes or else follow your admirable example!
